Curriculum/Religious Education/ Testing

Overview
Ss. Peter & Paul School is a Pre-School through Grade 8 parochial school.  Religious education is an integral part of the overall academic program.  Children are encouraged to incorporate the principles of Christianity into their daily lives through regular instruction and participation in the weekly liturgy.  As a community, we respect members of other faiths and emphasize the value of each child as an individual creation of God.

Our curriculum emphasizes a traditional academic program.  This program follows the curriculum and uses the same textbooks as the Fayette County Public School System.  We also incorporate the best features of modern educational practices, using technology, stressing the values of purposeful learning, good study habits, and high standards of achievement.  Results of national and state tests are evidence of a quality educational program at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic School.

Students from Ss. Peter & Paul School have traditionally excelled throughout their high school careers.  They are three to four times more likely to receive honors in high school, consistently score in the upper quartile of the state/county testing program, and successfully compete in the various academic enhancement activities available to their grade levels.

Religious Education Program

Following the guidelines of the Catholic Church, the primary goals of Ss. Peter & Paul's Religious Education Program are to proclaim Christ and His message, to foster the experience of community with Christ and with His people, to motivate service to others, and to inspire growth in prayer.

Our religious education is the foundation that gives coherence and meaning to all the rest of the students' learning experiences.  The effective use of the religion textbook, Bible study, liturgy planning and attendance, prayer service, and the use of audio-visual materials are the principle components of our religion classes.  In addition, students are encouraged to engage in service projects throughout the year, thereby witnessing that religion is a way of life.  Students in grades 5 - 8 are required to perform a certain number of service hours each grading period as part of their Religion grade.

A Family Life Program supplements our basic religious education program.  To be effective, this program must involve the efforts of the entire family.  Its purpose is the deepening of family life, respect for life and Christian sexuality.
