School Philosophy

At Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic School, students come to know and experience the Word of God and develop their gifts of hope, faith, trust, and love.  Students gain knowledge and understanding of the Catholic doctrine and the theology behind worship.

A primary element of the Catholic School community of parents, teachers and students is the witnessing of faith to one another.  All members of the community accept the responsibility for their role in the religious education and formation of the community as a whole.  The celebration of liturgy is of great importance to our school as a worshipping community and grows out of a relationship developed between the school community and God.  Flowing from this sense of commitment as community comes a natural response of service, which is accomplished by recognizing the needs of our faith community and then by taking the "loving actions" necessary to fulfill those needs.

In the area of academics, the faculty considers a well-rounded education as going beyond basic skills.  Knowledge is acquired not only through printed materials, but also through hands-on activities and cultural experiences.  Teacher awareness of modern education methods, technology, and use of up-to-date materials are essential to insure that knowledge is gained and used.

Our curriculum goals are to foster and accommodate student needs by adapting the state curriculum guidelines to our school environment.  The ultimate goal is for students to accept ownership and responsibility for their own education and experience academic success.

We believe education should be spiritual, intellectual, personal, physical and social development toward individual freedom through knowledge, which is a source of happiness and personal fulfillment.  We believe education is a preparation for life and helps one develop the equipment needed for dealing with life in society.

Teachers are viewed as role models and facilitators of learning.  In meeting the needs of the students in a double grade situation, the teacher must also function as coordinator in directing the methods and materials used in the classroom.  Equally important is the teacher's ability to communicate values in the Catholic school environment.

School relationships involving students, teachers and parents are based on respect, cooperation, responsibility and interdependence.  These relationships are vital to the Ss. Peter & Paul School community.
